Universal DTT via satellite II
HISPASAT coordinates this project that corresponds with the second stage of the Universal DTT project, which concludes in the clear advantages of using the DTT universalisation platform as the via satellite transport network currently operative in the Hispasat 1D satellite.
Some of these advantages are:
- Viability of the platform via satellite to complement the coverage of the DTT to 100% of the Spanish territory, all of which with small, high quality antennas with link availability.
- Possibility of reusing the current DTT distribution platform; low cost and more efficient standard (DVB-S2).
- Technological alternatives of a hybrid, terrestrial/satellite signal system and a data protection system.
In this second stage, DTT Universal II takes advantage of the activities and conclusions reached during the first stage and focuses on dealing with the necessary steps to enable the implementation of a real solution. Among the areas in study are:
- Optimisation of the dual satellite channel (DTT/Satellite): research for solutions that enable reuse and optimise costs.
- Design of a new DVB-S/S2/DVB-T Hybrid signal system. Signal solutions are considered for the different Autonomous Communities, determined by the need to use different identifiers in each one. Development of solutions that enable the reception of "regionalised" programmes.
- Analysis of protection systems of special contents for new services such as pay per view, interactivity, accessibility, etc.
- Incorporation to the DTT Universal via satellite of new future services such as High Definition TV, use of new standards, etc.
- Implications of the integration of the DTT Universal in the audience measuring systems.
- Development of the necessary technologies to achieve the abovementioned objectives and use of the commercial and domestic systems in the development of a user receiver.
HISPASAT not only coordinates this project, but is also in charge of presenting the results in technological events and fairs (Matelec, Broadcast, DVB, etc).
Besides from HISPASAT, other companies also participate in the DTT Universal II via satellite project such as: UPM, CRTVE, TELEVES, ABERTIS TELECOM and IMPULSA TDT.
The project Avanza R&D DTT Universal II is co-financed by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce (Ref: TSI-020100-2008-532), within the Spanish National Plan of Scientific, development and Technological Investigation Research 2008-2011.
