Human resources: training and professional profile

People most certainly constitute one of the main competitive advantages of an organisation, especially in environments like HISPASAT, where growing business needs and the speed of change constantly demand innovative, high-quality solutions and services. As such, as technology continues to advance in society, the need for human talent or, in other words, people with well-developed technical and emotional skills, capable of creating, valuing, innovating, taking on challenges and using their own personal and professional development to an organisation’s advantage, also grows.

Indeed, a well-trained organisation not only has a competitive advantage over others in terms of the knowledge it has acquired, it also offers constant, good-quality training and is competitive upon knowing how to apply this knowledge to optimise and improve all of its own internal processes.

As such, having a well-trained team with great technical skills, which is committed, motivated, open to change and capable of learning, is one of the main challenges HISPASAT aims to resolve by using up-to-date training programs, suited to the organisation’s needs.

In view of this aim, this fiscal year, HISPASAT has run several technical, skills, languages and other such training programs (for example in prevention and quality), thereby giving its professionals the training they need to develop both specific knowledge related to different work posts and skills considered essential or desirable for personal growth and the professional growth of their work as part of the HISPASAT team.

Within this framework, throughout 2014, HISPASAT introduced various language courses (English and Portuguese), which may be carried out both in-company and on-line and are designed to eliminate potential learning limitations, making use of these advancements to contribute towards ensuring all staff in the company benefit from this training, regardless of their location or work timetable. As far as skills training is concerned, this fiscal year, HISPASAT launched workshops and initiatives directed at promoting adaptation to change, customer and company focus and team management through effective leadership. It also delivered several courses in the field of workplace risk prevention, in line with the risks inherent to the different work posts within the company.

Efforts to continue with develop the Strategic Training Plan have enabled HISPASAT to significantly increase both the number of courses offered and carried out by employees (over 100 across all areas covered by the plan) and the number of hours dedicated to team training, which, at the end of the fiscal year, came in at over 6,470 hours.

Moreover, this year, the foundations for the launch of the Group Talent Management Program have been laid down, the aim being to attract and hold onto the best professionals, in addition to helping them to develop, motivating them and assessing their performance. This program includes aspects linked to identifying people with high potential within the company, in order to facilitate their growth in the work place, so that they acquire the skills and experience needed in order to take up high-responsibility posts in the future.

As for the professional profile, on the 31st of December 2014, the Group’s team consisted of 185 employees, over 50 per cent of whom have advanced higher education certificates and 27 per cent of whom have ordinary higher education certificates.
