FORUMS AND ASSOCIATIONS
Secretariat of State for the Information Society and Digital Agenda
HISPASAT collaborates bilaterally and by participating in preparatory multilateral meetings for international conferences and forums that affect the company.
In 2017, HISPASAT attended meetings focused on establishing a national position with regard to the agenda points for the upcoming World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) which will be held in 2019.
The Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency (ANATEL)
In Brazil, HISPASAT attended sessions of the Rapporteur Group on Radiocommunication 2 – Satellite services (GRR2), organised by the Agency.
International Telecommunication Union (ITU)
HISPASAT has participated in different ITU bodies and working groups, including:
a) ITU Council. HISPASAT participates in this Council, which constitutes the highest body of the organisation, as a guest of the Spanish government and as a member of the radiocommunications sector and a satellite operator governed by Spanish law.
b) WP4A Group of ITU. HISPASAT participates in this group, which works to ensure that orbit-spectrum resources are used efficiently for fixed satellite services and broadcast satellite services.
Inter-American Telecommunication Commission (CITEL)
HISPASAT participates in the Radiocommunications Committee (including radio broadcasting) PCC-II.
European Conference on Postal and Telecommunications Administrations (CEPT)
HISPASAT participates in the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) and in the Conference Preparatory Group (CPG) and its working groups.
Inter-American Association of Telecommunication (ASIET)
As an associate member of the Council, HISPASAT actively participates in its projects, primarily in the General Assembly, the Governing Board, Regulatory Commission and operators’ meetings.
European Satellite Operators Association (ESOA)
HISPASAT has collaborated on Council activities and in the association’s working groups
It has also participated regularly in meetings with the EU Commission.
National Union of Satellite Telecommunication Companies of Brazil (SINDISAT)
Through HISPAMAR, HISPASAT forms part of the management of the union and actively participates in its working groups, which establish joint commentary on ANATEL’s public consultations, among other activities.
Brazilian Association of Satellite Companies (ABRASAT)
Through HISPAMAR, the company forms part of the management of the Association and actively participates in its activities..
Global VSAT Forum (GVF)
The company participates in this forum comprised of the main members of the satellite communications industry.
World Teleport Association (WTA)
The company forms part of this association, which aims to help operators with control centres to maintain and expand their business.
Madrid Aerospace Cluster
HISPASAT is a partner of this cluster, to which more than 50 innovative companies in the sector belong.
European Telecommunications Standards Institute (ETSI)
HISPASAT attends the meetings of this institute, which is responsible for drawing up global standards related to information technology and communication.
Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB)
The company participates in meetings held by this organisation to promote internationally accepted TV standards.
Space Data Association
HISPASAT is a member of this association that controls the safety and integrity of the space environment and the radio frequency spectrum.
Spanish Defence, Aeronautical and Space Association (TEDAE)
HISPASAT is an association member and forms part of the Space Commission.
SAT>IP Alliance
HISPASAT continued working in the executive committee and in different working groups formed for the study and promotion of SAT-IP technology and on the direction to take, in addition to making business contacts with key clients.
FERIAS Y EVENTOS
For yet another year, HISPASAT has been present at the sector’s most important events, strengthening its commercial activities and the company’s image, both in the American and European continents.
In America, HISPASAT participated in the sector’s most important fair, the Washington Satellite, held in March, and in the National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB) in Las Vegas in April. In addition, it actively participated in the fourth edition of the LATSAT conferences, an executive telecommunications sector event, on connectivity and satellite communication for Latin America organised by the consultancy firm Euroconsult, held in Mexico City in 2017.
HISPAMAR was also present in the main telecommunications and satellite sector events in the Latin American market. It participated in SET Expo in August, a conference organised by the Brazilian TV Engineering Society, as well as in the main telecommunications event in Colombia, ANDICOM. In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the company attended the 17th Latin American Satellite Conference, held in September, in which the top executives of Brazilian operators meet, representing international groups, state defence agencies and major satellite market clients.
It took part in Futurecom in October, the most important international event in the sector in Latin America to present the new Amazonas 5 satellite. Lastly, HISPAMAR took part in the Brazil SSPI in November, an event organised annually by the International Society of Satellite Professionals at which the latest market developments are discussed at different sessions.
Moreover, in Europe, HISPASAT took part in the International Broadcast Convention (IBC) held every September in Amsterdam. It used the occasion to showcase its novelties in 4K HDR satellite reception, which complements the Ultra High Definition television providing greater brightness, intensity and colorimetry. It also gave a demonstration of IP transmission via satellite with lives interviews and recordings.
HISPASAT SATELLITE INNOVATION DAYS
As has become customary in previous years, HISPASAT commercial efforts were doubled over the HISPASAT Innovation Days. This year, its V edition, was held in seven cities: Milan, Rabat, Mexico City, London, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro and Cartagena de Indias. Leading actors in the satellite, telecommunications and audiovisual sector discussed the present and future of the industry at these events, while also identifying key factors for innovation and market growth. This year’s sessions focused on how innovation is impacting on the two main areas of the satellite market: the development of audiovisual services and data services disruption.
III INTERNATIONAL HISPASAT 4K FESTIVAL
HISPASAT held the third edition of the International Hispasat 4K Festival in 2017, one of the first competitions in the world fully dedicated to short films recorded in 4K. Some 127 short films competed from 17 different countries. This edition of the festival was sponsored by important sector companies, such as the production company Cine365 Film, RTVE, Dolby, Fujifilm, SGO, Ad Hoc Studios and Atresmedia.
The awards ceremony took place at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. In addition, within the framework of the festival, HISPASAT and RTVE signed an agreement with Filmoteca Española to digitize in 4K a copy of the 1915 classic Clarita and Peladilla in football, by Benito Perojo, one of the great pioneers of Spanish cinematography. The result could be seen for the first time at the Festival awards ceremony.
COURSES AND SPONSORSHIPS
SUMMER COURSES IN EL ESCORIAL
Once again, HISPASAT collaborated with Complutense University in the promoting the transmitting of television signals via satellite link. This service can be used by news and TV programmes that wish to send up-to-date course images and news made and distributed by the Complutense University production company (UCMTV). It is provided over the Hispasat 30W-4 satellite.
Moreover, HISPASAT sponsored the course “The TV series phenomenon: beyond fiction” directed by Antonio San José and José Manuel Lorenzo.
TITAN DESERT
In 2017, HISPASAT once again sponsored a new edition of the Titan Desert mountain bike race in the Moroccan desert. Along with Quantis, a Eurona subsidiary, the company provided the over 400 competitors to participate this year, as well as race organisation and journalists covering the event, with connectivity via satellite. Accordingly, those taking part in the race were able to use the internet in an area that combines both high mountains and desert: a place as yet beyond the reach of other technologies.
SPANISH RUGBY FEDERATION
HISPASAT continued to sponsor the Spanish Rugby Federation this year by broadcasting international matches played in Spain via satellite for both men’s and women’s national teams, as well as the finals of the main tournaments on the mainland.
SCHOOL OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING
This year, HISPASAT participated in the awards ceremony for young engineers that the Official School of Telecommunications Engineers awards the best doctoral and bachelor’s theses, while also sponsoring two of the awards.
