BUSINESS ACTIVITY

EUROPE

In the audiovisual sphere, in 2018 the company began broadcasting the new DTH Pantelio platform, available in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, working together with Panacess and Belintermedia via the Hispasat 30W-5 satellite.

HISPASAT began to broadcast the Funbox channel, which is an ultra high definition (4K) channel for Europe, through a partnership with the German telecommunications hub Media Broadcast.

In addition, since the beginning of the year, HISPASAT has been permanently broadcasting the Centro Televisivo Vaticano (Vatican Media) signal to Latin America.

During the year, HISPASAT broadcast the Almagro International Festival for RTVE and an agreement was signed with the Barcelona Liceo theatre to broadcast opera live.

In contribution services, HISPASAT has added to its client portfolio Televisión de Castilla la Mancha, Tres Sistemas de Comunicación S.L and the Globecast group.

In data communication, the backhaul for O2 in the United Kingdom also represents a major milestone for HISPASAT in the field of data communications in Europe. Telefónica International Wholesale Services (TIWS), a shareholding company of the Telefónica group, has provided O2 with this mobile telephony base station extension service using the space capacity of the Hispasat 30W-6 satellite.

Similarly, and using the same satellite’s capacity, HIPASAT provides Divona Algerie for business communications between Algeria and Spain.

During 2018 all the facilities for Telespazio‘s cinema broadcasts in Italy were completed. Furthermore, the Italian company has set in motion its maritime mobility services in the Mediterranean through HISPASAT.

On the other hand, the first maritime connectivity services have been activated against the new HISPASAT mobility platform located in Colombia, thanks to an extension of the agreement with the Spanish company Syntelix.

HISPASAT proceeded with activating Ka band services, fulfilling the agreement reached in 2017 with the company Eurona to provide residential internet access services both on the Iberian Peninsula and in Morocco.

An agreement was reached with Lintia (UFINET) to migrate the shared Ka band to Ku band, with the agreement having been renewed until the end of the useful life of the Hispasat 30W-5 satellite.

Moreover, in 2018 contracts with Telefónica Group were renewed in order to give continuity to their data services in Europe and America.

CENTRAL AMERICA

HISPASAT continues to work on the México Conectado project, through which connectivity is provided to more than 10,000 sites via the Amazonas 2 satellite, thereby covering a good part of the country’s digital divide and bringing added value to the Information Society. The new Amazonas 5 satellite’s Ka band technology has made it possible to supply very efficient solutions in terms of costs and band widths for several customers in Mexico, including for the ongoing México Conectado project.

Within the new deployment of HISPASAT managed services in 2018, an agreement has been reached with Dish in Mexico, with the aim of connecting Mexico using the ON product, a new high-quality satellite Internet access service.

At the same time, the company helped with the restoration of communications in the Caribbean following the natural disasters that occurred in 2018 using the Amazonas 3 satellite.

UNITED STATES

HISPASAT plays an important role as a supplier to the companies that provide services to the Department of Defence, whose capacity is renewed year on year. It is worth highlighting the new services offered on the Amazonas 2 and Hispasat 30W-6 satellites for unmanned flights (UAV-Unmanned Aerial Vehicles).

In terms of business communications, HISPASAT continues to have a significant presence, with the Oil and Gas market being particularly notable. The United States’ capacity has also increased with new backhaul services for over 600 T-Mobile stations via Gilat and new in-flight connectivity services using the Amazonas 2 satellite.

SOUTH AMERICA

HISPASAT continues to supply Telefónica with the transmission of direct-to-home broadcast services (DTH) for the whole region.

Audiovisual contribution services are still growing in the region and, in Paraguay, HISPASAT leads the field for transmissions in this format. Similarly, during 2018 there has been a boost to contribution services, with notable growth in Argentina and Uruguay.

In the data communications field, a contract was signed with Kroton (considered to be a giant of tele-education in Latin America) to provide services in Brazil.

In Colombia HISPASAT continues to help reduce the digital divide, and the Vive Digital kiosks service has been renewed. At present it has more than 600 satellite communications hotspots.

In addition, 2018 saw the roll-out of the first experimental WiFi zones in Colombia, with the aim of consolidating them in the months to come.

Lastly, winning the contract with TIWS Brazil for backhaul services in Northern parts of Brazil brought to a close a year of expansion in satellite communications technology in the region.
