FORUMS AND FAIRS

FORUMS AND ASSOCIATIONS

SPANISH SECRETARIAT OF STATE FOR THE INFORMATION SOCIETY AND DIGITAL AGENDA: HISPASAT collaborates bilaterally and by participating in preparatory multilateral meetings for international conferences and forums that affect the company.

In 2018, HISPASAT participated in meetings focused on establishing a national position with regard to the agenda points for the upcoming World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC-19) which will be held in 2019.

SPANISH NATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS AGENCY (ANATEL): In Brazil, HISPASAT attended sessions of the Rapporteur group on Radiocommunication 2 – Satellite services (GRR2), organised by the Agency.

INTERNATIONAL TELECOMMUNICATION UNION (ITU):

HISPASAT took part in:

a) ITU Council. HISPASAT participates in this Council, which constitutes the highest body of the organisation, as a guest of the Spanish government and as a member of the radiocommunications sector and a satellite operator governed by Spanish law.

b) WP4A Group of ITU. This group works to ensure that orbit-spectrum resources are used efficiently for fixed satellite services and broadcast satellite services.

c) Plenipotentiary Conference The 20th Plenipotentiary Conference was held in Dubai in 2018. At the invitation of the Spanish authorities, HISPASAT participated in this Conference, the supreme policy-making body of the ITU at which ITU Member States decide what role the Organisation will play in future, and thereby determine the Union’s ability to influence and have an impact on the development of information and communication technologies (ICT) around the world.

INTER-AMERICAN TELECOMMUNICATION COMMISSION (CITEL): HISPASAT participates in the Radiocommunications Committee (including radio broadcasting) PCC-II.

EUROPEAN CONFERENCE ON POSTAL AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS ADMINISTRATIONS (CEPT): HISPASAT participates in the Electronic Communications Committee (ECC) and in the Conference Preparatory Group (CPG) and its working groups.

INTER-AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF TELECOMMUNICATION (ASIET): As an associate member of the Council, HISPASAT participates primarily in the General Assembly, the Governing Board, Regulatory Commission and operators’ meetings.

EUROPEAN SATELLITE OPERATORS ASSOCIATION (ESOA): The company collaborated on Council activities and in the association’s working groups, as well as at meetings with the European Commission.

NATIONAL UNION OF SATELLITE TELECOMMUNICATION COMPANIES OF BRAZIL (SINDISAT): Through HISPAMAR, HISPASAT actively participates in the working groups that, among other activities, establish joint commentary on ANATEL’s public consultations.

BRAZILIAN ASSOCIATION OF SATELLITE COMPANIES (ABRASAT): HISPAMAR is part of the Association’s management and participates in its activities.

GLOBAL VSAT FORUM (GVF): This forum comprises the main members of the satellite communications industry.

MADRID AEROSPACE CLUSTER: HISPASAT is a partner of this cluster, to which more than 50 innovative companies in the sector belong.

EUROPEAN TELECOMMUNICATIONS STANDARDS INSTITUTE (ETSI): HISPASAT attends the meetings of this institute, which is responsible for drawing up global standards related to information technology and communication.

DIGITAL VIDEO BROADCASTING (DVB): The company participates in order to promote internationally accepted TV standards.

SPACE DATA ASSOCIATION: HISPASAT is a member of this association that controls the safety and integrity of the space environment and the radio frequency spectrum.

SPANISH DEFENCE, AERONAUTICAL AND SPACE ASSOCIATION (TEDAE): HISPASAT is an association member and forms part of the Space Commission.

SAT>IP ALLIANCE: HISPASAT continued working on the executive committee and in different working groups formed for the study and promotion of SAT-IP technology and on the direction to take, in addition to making business contacts with key customers.

FAIRS AND EVENTS

On the American continent, HISPASAT attended Washington Satellite, the most important fair in the industry, and the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) Show in Las Vegas. In Mexico City, the company took part in the Latsat conferences, an executive event in the telecommunication, connectivity and satellite communication sector for Latin America, organised annually by Euroconsult.

In Latin America, HISPAMAR participated in SET Expo, a conference organised by the Brazilian TV Engineering Society, and in Andicom, the main telecommunications event in Colombia. In Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the company attended the 18th Latin American Satellite Conference, held in September, at which the top executives of Brazilian operators meet, representing international groups, state defence agencies and major satellite market clients.

The company took part in Futurecom, the industry’s most important international fair in Latin America and in the Brazil SSPI, an event organised annually by the International Society of Satellite Professionals at which the latest market developments are discussed in various sessions.

In Europe, HISPASAT attended the Barcelona Mobile World Congress at which the company announced its participation in the 5G Barcelona initiative. It will be one of the companies that will carry out tests for the design of the hybrid networks that, using the most efficient combination of different space and terrestrial technologies, fifth generation mobile telephony (5G) services will provide in future. In September HISPASAT participated in the IBC (International Broadcast Convention), which is held annually in Amsterdam.

HISPASAT SATELLITE INNOVATION DAYS 2018

As in previous years, the company hosted this event again. In 2018, HISPASAT put on the VI edition of the HISPASAT Innovation Days, which were held in London, Rabat, Mexico City, Milan, Rio de Janeiro, Bogotá and Buenos Aires. Leading players in the satellite, telecommunications and audiovisual sector attended these meetings to discuss the present and future of the industry, while also identifying key factors for innovation and market growth.

COURSES AND SPONSORSHIPS

UIMP

In 2018 HISPASAT celebrated the IX Conference on Space Telecommunications, the title of which was “Transformation in the satellite sector: disruption and innovation”. More than 70 executives from the aerospace and satellite telecommunications sectors discussed the changes that they have seen in recent years and the importance of innovation for generating new business opportunities.

For the first time this meeting was attended by start-ups dedicated to the satellite field, who contributed to discussions with the more disruptive vision that New Space brings.

SUMMER COURSES IN EL ESCORIAL

Once again, HISPASAT collaborated with Complutense University, providing the technological solution that allows television signals to be transmitted via a satellite link. This service can be used by news and TV programmes that wish to send up-to-date course images and news made and distributed by the Complutense University production company (UCMTV). It is provided over the Hispasat 30W-6 satellite.

SPANISH RUGBY FEDERATION

HISPASAT continued to sponsor the Spanish Rugby Federation this year by broadcasting international matches played in Spain via satellite for both men’s and women’s national teams, as well as the finals of the main tournaments on the mainland.

SCHOOL OF TELECOMMUNICATIONS ENGINEERING

This year, HISPASAT participated in the awards ceremony for young engineers that the Official School of Telecommunications Engineers awards to the best doctoral and bachelor’s theses, while also sponsoring two of the awards.
