03
With over 30 years as a leader of satellite operations in Spain, HISPASAT is the fourth largest satellite operator by income in Latin America and the eighth largest globally, with a mission to continue growing based on the quality of its services and its commitment to innovation.
HISPASAT is a key player in the Spanish aerospace industry, not only because it generates significant industrial returns, but also because it drives its development, promotes innovation and encourages its internationalisation.

Industrial Return Programme

HISPASAT’s Industrial Return Programme, a cornerstone of its contribution to progress in the Spanish aerospace industry, establishes that satellite manufacturers that contract HISPASAT must reinvest in components made in Spain over a 10 year period following its construction for the same amount that the operator has paid for the satellite.

€1 billion made available to the Spanish industry during the company’s 30 years.

This initiative reinforces the driving role of HISPASAT as a leading company in the sector and generates indirect knock-on effects of its significant investments on the whole value chain of satellite communications, which are passed on to other players in the form of purchases, innovation and licenses, as well as talent and prestige, which are key to keep moving forward into the future.

From 2013 to 2019, HISPASAT invested €943 million in satellite programmes.

Commitment to local development

In 2019, purchases made by HISPASAT from Spanish suppliers reached €17.2 million, rising to €36.3 million when the whole of the EU is taken into account. Where HISPAMAR is concerned, purchases made from suppliers located in Brazil rose to €52.2 million reales.

Aware of its ability to extend good operational, social and environmental practices to the companies that it deals with, HISPASAT establishes various requirements in this regard in its contracting conditions, which aim both to establish sustainability guarantees in the management of the company’s supply chain, and to pass on these values to suppliers. In 2014 HISPASAT updated the General Conditions of Contract for the Acquisition of Goods and Services.
