Two next-generation mobile units will follow riders in every stage of this year's cycling race.
HISPASAT satellites are the ideal platform for providing the telecommunications services needed for the race thanks to their large bandwidth and broad coverage in the mountain stages.
Once again, Spanish satellite communications operator HISPASAT will provide telecommunications services for the Vuelta a España cycling race, which starts in Vilanova de Arousa, Pontevedra, and ends in Madrid on September 15.
Two high-performance mobile satellite transmission units will follow this year’s edition of the Vuelta 2013. HISPASAT will use them to offer, inter alia, broadband Internet, telephony and video services to both the race organisers and the reporters at the finish lines of each stage, enabling them to send their daily reports and interviews of the stage winners via videoconference with accredited press members. HISPASAT satellites are the ideal platform for providing this type of services given their large bandwidth and broad coverage in the mountain stages.
According to Ignacio Sanchis, Business Director of HISPASAT, “making all our satellite communications technology available for a major sporting event like the Vuelta a España illustrates the large capacity of HISPASAT satellites to provide quality retransmissions with rapid deployment from highly disperse geographical locations that are often difficult to reach”.
To offer these transmissions with maximum quality and security, HISPASAT has equipped its two mobile units with a next-generation broadband satellite communication system. One unit will be placed at the finish line of each stage so that the press rooms can deliver broadband Internet and high-quality videoconferencing services, as well as the full range of telephony services. The other will be positioned each day at the race’s permanent office, which in addition to the aforementioned solutions will include a mobile call centre providing fax and telephone services.
Thanks to HISPASAT, the 2013 Vuelta a España will boast the most cutting-edge technology currently available for broadband Internet access via satellite for all 21 stages of the race. The HISPASAT system provides satellite communication with channels set up specifically to maintain communication between the finish lines and the press rooms, as well as with Internet servers of this premier sporting event.
