HISPAMAR Satellites, the Brazilian subsidiary of the HISPASAT Group, secured rights to operate Ku band at 61º West for the next 15 years, in an open auction held by the Brazilian government.
On the 6th of May, thanks to its Brazilian subsidiary HISPAMAR Satellites, the HISPASAT Group gained orbital rights in Ku band for the 61º West Brazilian orbital position. These rights are valid for 15 years and may be extended for a similar period. With their offer of 29.5 million dollars, HISPAMAR Satellites held the winning bid in the auction organized by the Brazilian National Telecommunications Agency, Anatel. Seven satellite operators from across the globe attended the event.
This effort clearly demonstrates HISPASAT Group’s dedication to continue growing in the Latin American market, a region with an annual forecast growth of the satellite capacity demand of 5.7% for the next five years and in which the Group is considered a reference operator. Indeed, in 2013, 55.6% of HISPASAT Group’s profits were made on the American continent, where it is already a leader in broadcasting content in the Spanish and Portuguese languages and the fourth largest operator in terms of income. These orbital rights will enable the Group to expand their telecommunication services in the area, especially in Brazil, from where HISPAMAR operate four satellites in the Amazonas fleet.
