The call for entries for the HISPASAT 4K International Festival ends next September 23rd. The competition is open to films produced in any country and in any genre (fiction, documentary, experimental, music video, institutional, etc.) with a maximum duration of 20 minutes, and shot and produced in 4K format.

The Spanish satellite communications operator HISPASAT is organising the international festival with the goal of promoting the creation and screening of audiovisual content recorded in 4K, or Ultra High Definition (UHD), the latest technological revolution in the audiovisual sector.  The contest is one of the first in the world with these characteristics.

This initiative, unlike any other in Spain, involves the collaboration of cutting-edge technology companies, such as Samsung, Dolby, Canon or SGO, as well as RTVE, Callao City Lights cinema in Madrid and producer Heavents.

The following categories and awards have been established:

- HISPASAT AWARD FOR BEST SHORT FILM: 3,000 € + Samsung SUHD TV.

- SAMSUNG AWARD FOR BEST LATIN AMERICAN SHORT FILM: 1,000 € + Samsung SUHD TV.

- RTVE AWARD FOR BEST SHORT FILM FROM A FILM ACADEMY: 1,000 € + 2 scholarships in 4K specialisation at the RTVE Institute.

- CANON AWARD FOR BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY: 1,000 € + Canon 4K camera.

- DOLBY AWARD FOR BEST SOUND: 1,000 € + ATMOS mastering.

The official rules and regulations for the contest are available at: http://www.hispasat4kfest.es/#bases. Entry forms shall be submitted through the MOVIBETA site.

The five winning films will be shown at the closing night ceremony, held on November 12th, 2015 at the Callao City Lights cinema in Madrid.

The advent of 4K format offers viewers the opportunity to enjoy an unparalleled cinematic experience with never-before-seen image quality. UHD quadruples the number of megapixels that conventional high-definition screens contain. HISPASAT has been driving the development and implementation of UHD since its beginning, with the goal of making it available to film and television viewers as soon as possible.
