Finalists selected for the HISPASAT contest which will provide Internet access to a town without connectivity

May 17, 2017

Aracena (Huelva), Magaña (Soria) and Valle de Manzanedo (Burgos) were chosen among the 25 towns that entered the #enREDatupueblo contest.

The final winner will be the one who receives the most votes as of 27 May on social networks and the website.

HISPASAT will provide satellite broadband connection to this town, giving its residents free Internet access via satellite with a speed of 30 Mbps for one year.

Madrid, 17 May 2017.- In celebration of World Internet Day, today HISPASAT announced the three finalists of the "#enREDatupueblo" contest, sponsored by the operator with the aim to help bridge the digital divide and encourage the use of satellites as a technological alternative to bring broadband connectivity to remote or sparsely populated areas of Spain.

The projects presented by the residents of Aracena (Huelva), Magaña (Soria) and Valle de Manzanedo (Burgos) were preselected by the telecommunication operator to vie for the prize of free Internet connection at 30 Mbps via satellite for one year.

To participate in the contest, the towns had to meet the requirements established in the terms and conditions (http://hispasatconectate.es/bases/) and submit an original proposal, either physically or digitally, that explains the improvements that satellite connectivity will bring to different aspects of their life and the town's activities. The creative works have been assessed based on the quality of the works received, the support and involvement of the town's residents and their reasons for needing a digital connection.

The winner of this unique contest will be chosen by popular vote through the “Conéctate" project website www.hispasatconectate.es, where, from today until 27 May, anyone who so wishes can vote for their favourite proposal. The final decision will be announced on 29 May.

These are the videos of the town finalists. Hispasat encourages everyone to participate in the #enREDatupueblo contest vote, joining the public jury that will choose the winner.

Conéctate Project

With the aim of helping bridge the digital divide and meet the objectives set forth by the European Digital Agency, HISPASAT has launched Conéctate, a digital inclusion project intended to improve the quality of life and the economic and social development of remote or sparsely populated areas in Spain that do not have access to broadband Internet or have very poor quality access.

Thus, it is essential to inform residents of the possibilities that satellites offer as a technology to universally access quality broadband connection, with the aim of preventing the risk of digital exclusion for those who are affected.

Knowing that satellites, due to their universal coverage and high capacity, can provide solutions and equal opportunities to 100% of the population, HISPASAT maintains its firm commitment, in the present and in the future, to opening doors to access the information society for all citizens through this project.
