Repopulation of Rural Spain

6th October 2020

The Repopulation Bus puts rural areas at the forefront thanks to HISPASAT satellites.

This initiative, promoted by the El Hueco association from Soria, and mainly sponsored by the Red Eléctrica Group, aims to help revitalise rural areas through various activities, from discussions to art, concerts and entrepreneur competitions. It also aims to drive dynamics of change in the rural environment, which encourage sustainable, community-based and ecological development, and put an end to the technological differences between rural and urban areas.

The big change in this edition of the tour, which ends in October, is that it has boasted connectivity technology via satellite thanks to HISPASAT, which makes it possible to broadcast the reality of rural Spain live from the villages it stops in, along a journey of 10,000 kilometres in which it will travel round more than 40 towns in 17 provinces.

HISPASAT has assisted with the installation of a satellite terminal on the bus with its appropriate technical equipment, and it will provide a managed connectivity service using the space capacity of its Hispasat 30W-6 satellite.

Satellite is the most appropriate technological solution to make Internet access more widespread in rural areas, given its coverage, fast deployment and its high capacity, with speeds of over 30 Mbps.

The Repopulation Bus tour will raise awareness of the advantages that satellite offers in bringing connectivity to these villages, offering new opportunities to their residents and driving growth and activity in these areas.

Presura Summer – Autumn 2020 Tour

The presentation ceremony of the Repopulation Bus, which took place in the Reina Sofía Museum on 9 July, kicked off the Presura Summer – Autumn 2020 Tour.

The Secretary General for Demographic Challenge, Elena Cebrián, and the Chief Executive Officer of HISPASAT, Miguel Ángel Panduro, the chairwoman of Red Eléctrica de España, to name a few, took part in the ceremony.

HISPASAT will also take part in the 4th National Fair for the Repopulation of Rural Spain, Presura20, which will take place on 6 November of this year.
