Irdeto and Zinwell have recently joined SAT>IP Alliance, along with Eutelsat, Maxlinear, Nagra, Hispasat, Panasonic, SES and Verimatrix.
The SAT>IP Alliance has also partnered with DVB to boost future SAT>IP technology development.
LUXEMBOURG/ AMSTERDAM, 15th September 2017 – At IBC this year, the SAT>IP Alliance has announced that it continues to add new members to its association. Recent new members are Irdeto, the world leader in digital platform security, and Zinwell Corporation, leader supplier in communications equipment. Irdeto and Zinwell will join the SAT>IP Alliance to collaborate on various strategic issues in which the SAT>IP Alliance is working on, such as extensions of the SAT>IP protocol for CAS>DRM conversion and transcoding.
Additionally, SAT>IP Alliance and DVB have entered into a formal liaison agreement on the future development of the SAT>IP specification to be carried out in DVB. This positive development will allow the overall DVB community to contribute to next generation SAT>IP features and services. The agreement also states that future promotion of the technology will be conducted jointly. Additionally, all product certification activities will remain within the SAT>IP Alliance.
The SAT>IP Alliance is a non-profit organization aiming to promote the use of the SAT>IP protocol throughout the industry, facilitate certification of new devices, and develop and improve the SAT>IP standard. The SAT>IP Alliance includes leading satellite operators and manufacturers and aims to accelerate the adoption of SAT>IP in the satellite industry and push this technology to the consumer market. It promotes the use of the SAT>IP communications protocol, supports integration of CAS-to-DRM technology for distributing Pay-TV services over in-home IP networks, and facilitates product certifications.
SAT>IP technology can be used to facilitate the delivery of live broadcast (based on transport stream technology) onto IP networks in a very cost efficient manner. The technology is supported by numerous manufacturers and has been successfully introduced in several markets. The SAT>IP protocol (CENELEC standard EN50585) is the predominant solution for indoor distribution in Europe. It informs a hand-held device about available services and allows the user to request a specific service from the broadcast receiver. Any IP device (television smartphone, tablet, PC, game console, etc.) with the SAT>IP software installed can become a viewing client for receiving satellite, terrestrial or cable broadcasts via the in-home IP network.
