HISPASAT announces the jury's decision for its IV “Female Engineer” Scholarship for postgraduate space studies

• Laura García Insa, a graduate in Aerospace Engineering from the Polytechnic of Valencia, has been selected as the winner of the 5,000 euro scholarship.

• The satellite operator has awarded its fourth annual scholarship to a female engineer so that the winner can earn a master's degree in the space sector.

• The company aims to foster female talent in engineering in order to have more women working in this sector in the future.

MADRID, 27 July 2020. HISPASAT, the Spanish satellite communications operator, has announced the winner of the HISPASAT "Female Engineer" scholarship today. The jury has selected Laura García Insa, a graduate in Aerospace Engineering from the Polytechnic of Valencia, who holds a grade point average of 8.1. She also earned a Promoe scholarship to study the last year of her undergraduate programme in the University of Buffalo (New York, USA).

The call for the scholarship received 18 applications, 13 of which were students from Aerospace Engineering and five from Telecommunications Engineering. The jury praised her academic record and took into account her international experience and her participation in a collaborative project that the University of Buffalo developed with NASA engineers for the research and design of a complete space mission (Venus Atmosphere and Surface sample Transport, VAST). Her dedication to the space sector and her interest in space exploration and innovation also stood out.

The jury, which met on 17 July, was formed by Ms Alexia Rodríguez, on behalf of the Official College of Telecommunication Engineers; Ms Cristina de Bustos, on behalf of the Official College of Aeronautics Engineers of Spain; and, on behalf of HISPASAT, Mr Antonio Abad, Chief Technical and Operations Officer; Mr Ignacio Sanchis, Chief Commercial Officer; Mr Miguel Táuler, Chief of Resources and Organisation, and Ms Cristina Perez Cantó, Director of Communications.

HISPASAT's "Female Engineer" scholarship awards 5,000 euros so that an engineering student may conduct postgraduate studies in a master's degree in Aeronautics or Telecommunications Engineering in the space sector.

The scholarship, awarded annually, aims to foster the presence of female talent in the technological field and thus contribute both to women's professional development in these areas of studies as well as increase the number of women in the aerospace sector.

This initiative forms part of HISPASAT's Sustainable policy and its commitment to helping people and the communities develop. HISPASAT is particularly committed to promoting education and equality, areas in which the company is especially involved thanks to the different projects it carries out.
