Madrid, 18 May 2016. Spanish satellite telecommunications operator HISPASAT and Portugal Telecom television’s MEO platform have reached an agreement to broadcast in 4K format the Champions League Final on the Sport TV channel as well as eight of the most important matches of the UEFA Euro 2016 on the RTP 4K channel. Thanks to this collaboration with HISPASAT, MEO satellite channel customers will be able to enjoy the most remarkable footballing moments of the year with the highest image quality and the latest technology.
The first match to be broadcast in Ultra High Definition (UHD) will be the Real Madrid – Atlético de Madrid match, disputing the Champions League Final in Milan on 28 May, and will be broadcast on the Sport TV channel. The most important matches of the UEFA Euro 2016 to be played this summer will also be broadcast in UHD on the RTP 4K channel. They correspond to the opening match between France and Hungary, the quarterfinals, semi-finals and finals, which will be held in Paris on 10 July. Both sporting events will be broadcast on the Portuguese MEO platform, via the Hispasat 30W-5 satellite.
Additionally, the agreement between the two companies, which aims to promote broadcasting in UHD, includes airing the Hispasat 4K television channel – exclusively for UHD content – within the Portuguese platform’s service offering.
The Ultra High Definition channel quadruples the number of megapixels that conventional high-definition screens contain. Therefore, the resolution is four times greater than conventional high definition and offers image sharpness, colour gradation and texture definition that provide the viewer an extremely high sense of quality and a more immersive experience.
