This new contract increases the contracted capacity in these two areas for the 2023-24 season and is oriented at providing entertainment and value-added solutions on board cruise ships and other recreation vessels.

HISPASAT, the satellite communications operator of Redeia, and the maritime connectivity services provider, Omniaccess, have renewed the contract already in force with a new agreement that extends the relationship until the 2023-24 season and multiplies the leased space capacity six-fold.
HISPASAT’s satellites in the 30º and 61º West orbital positions, combined with Omniaccess’ teleport in Palma de Mallorca, make it possible to offer communications services especially designed for maritime settings and to thus roll out entertainment, cybersecurity and value-added services for the crew on board of leisure vessels with a high demand for connectivity (such as cruise ships and yachts) in the Caribbean and the Mediterranean.
Carlos Carbajal, the CEO of Omniaccess, stated that “we enjoy a close relationship with HISPASAT based on their excellent coverage over maritime traffic areas and on the reliability and flexibility of their service, that’s why we are convinced that this new contract will be a complete commercial success.”
Ignacio Sanchis, the Chief Commercial Officer of HISPASAT, added that “we are extremely grateful that Omniaccess is interested in expanding the contracted capacity over the Caribbean and the Mediterranean for the upcoming season. We boast extensive experience in providing maritime connectivity services and we believe that this will believe one of the main vectors of growth in upcoming years.”
The maritime connectivity sector reached revenues of nearly 1 billion euro in 2020, though this figure is expected to double by 2030. Likewise, the demand for capacity is expected to increase eight-fold between now and 2030, especially on leisure and passenger transportation vessels -such as cruise ships, ferries and yachts-, as travelers are increasingly using the broadband services available on board for entertainment and on-demand video applications.
Headquartered in the “yachting capital of the Mediterranean,” Palma de Mallorca, OmniAccess is the leading superyacht connectivity and solutions provider, established in 2002 and part of the Marlink Group since 2017, the company offers a portfolio of cutting-edge Network Solutions (NaaS), Cyber Security, VSAT and LEO connectivity, 4G/5G, local WiFi/WIMAX networks, and IPTV to over 400 vessels, including the world’s most impressive yachts, boutique cruise lines and high-end expedition vessels. With an experienced staff of close to 200 employees, OmniAccess operates an advanced global network of satellites, uplinked through several teleport-locations in Spain, UK, Germany, Hawaii, Australia and the USA. With a state-of-the-art 24/7 Network Operations Center (NOC) OmniAccess provides the highest service levels and pushes the boundaries of connectivity with its nextGen "Hybrid" service that offers speeds of up to 400Mbps. All this is integrated through OmniAccess’s in-house “Unity” network selection device, an intuitive LAN and WAN network orchestration tool that provides the best possible connectivity experience depending on network availability, user and application latency.
HISPASAT, Redeia’s satellite services operator and provider, offers satellite broadband and connectivity solutions including Internet access, mobility and the expansion of cellular networks, as well as other added-value proposals, to governments, corporations and telecommunications operators in the Americas, Europe and North Africa. It is also a leader in distributing Spanish and Portuguese audio-visual content and broadcasting important digital platforms such as Direct To Home (DTH) television and High Definition Television (HDTV), in addition to managing transportation and audio-visual signals from HISPASAT Peru’s teleport in Lurín.
